It's our favourite time of the year! Kathmandu Open Data Day will be celebrated on March 4th with a pre-event Hackathon on 25th February. We are excited to welcome you all to be part of this international celebration!
Open Data Day is celebrated around the world to show the benefits of open data and encourage the adoption of open data policies in government, business and civil society. It is an opportunity for people to gather for networking, learning, sharing and promoting, and to get together to write applications, liberate data, create visualizations and publish analysis using open public data.
Open data day is being celebrated for the fifth time in Nepal and this year promises to be better than ever. Plans for the event will be posted on the Open Data Day 2017 page and keep an eye out on our social media for updates. We look forwards to seeing you there!
What's happening for Kathmandu Open Data Day 2017?
Pre-event Hackathon: On 25th February, a week ahead of Open Data Day, data enthusiasts are invited to come together and develop solutions such as visualizations, web-apps or mobile-apps to address real challenges in the domain of public procurement and health. If you are a data analyst, front-end developer, project manager, designer, mobile developer, student or just someone who is interested in data then come along and get involved! You can learn more about it here. The event is organised by Young Innovations in partnership with Open Nepal and Leapfrog Technology.
Open Data Day Event: The 4th March will be a packed-day of sessions, workshops and networking. Currently on the schedule are:
· Panel Discussion: What is the government doing to improve availability and accessibility of its data? What are the challenges? What are the opportunities? If the panel was as lively as last year’s then this year will be a great opportunity to find out.
· Lightening Talks: Open data enthusiasts, civil society leaders and government officials will have 5 minutes to present their data initiatives and how data has been supporting their work.
· Hackathon Award Ceremony: Award will be given to the winners of the hackathon held on 25th February.
Planning for these sessions is still in progress. If you are interested in participating as a speaker in one of these sessions or have ideas for other interesting sessions please write to us at email@example.com or share your ideas via our Facebook and Twitter.
